It will include:
  • Self introductions to get to know each other's professional interests.
  • Presentation on working together from GP and psycholoigst perspectives.
  • General questions and dsicussions about working together across systems, which may include WorkCover, Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), etc.

Some possible discussion questions:
  • What does a psychologist need on a mental health care plan referral?
  • Do all mental health issues need a referral to a psychologist?
  • What correspondence do GPs want from psychologists?

This event will end at 6:30pm. You are welcome to stay for the monthly meeting of the Bundaberg-Hervey Bay Branch of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

GROUP SUPERVISION FOR PROVISIONAL PSYCHOLOGISTS

April - Guest speaker to provide information on the National Psychology Exam, with general Q&A.
May - Review of DSM-5 criteria and diagnostic considerations of neurodevelopmental disorders. 
June - Principles and practice of working with clients from different cultural backgrounds to yours.
July - Providing a succinct formulation and treatment plan following clinical interview, Part 1. 
August - Providing a succinct formulation and treatment plan following clinical interview, Part 2. 
September - Principles and practice of choosing, administering, interpreting, and communicating psychometric assessments.
October - Relating theory, to practice and evaluation of common therapy modalities. 
November - Understanding the validation papers and interpretation of results of common screeners such as the DASS and K10. 
December - Practicing and recording continued professional development for your career.

Time: 5:30 - 6:30pm, or until 6:50pm if there is a peer presentation.

ROLE PLAY WEDNESDAY

Description: Role Play Wednesdays is an experiential and experimental supervision group to improve therapy skills. It is held every 1st Wednesday of the month. Each month, we have a local psychologist or mental health professional from the Fraser Coast demonstrate a practical skill that they use. They then guide group practice.

Circle of Security for Professionals Working With Children

CIRCLE OF SECURITY FOR PROFESSIONALS WORKING WITH CHILDREN

This group is limited to 6 spots. Once 6 spots are filled, registration will close.
Each week builds on the previous content, so a commitment to participate in all weeks is required to complete the course.

The Circle of Security® Parenting™ program (COS) is a parenting program developed specifically for children at risk of disrupted attachments and their caregivers. COS is based on decades of research that shows how parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened to promote a secure attachment.

This course is a parenting program, however is open to caregivers and to professionals and paraprofessionals alike. The program will be delivered in a small group format. Participants engage in an eight-chapter video-based program that runs over 8 weeks. The video content presents examples of secure and problematic parent/child interaction, healthy options in caregiving, and animated graphics designed to clarify principles central to Circle of Security Parenting. The facilitator encourages participants to use reflection and to apply the COS concepts between sessions.

This workshop will enhance the participant’s:
  • skills in observing and understanding a child’s needs
  • observational and inferential skills
  • reflective functioning
  • emotional regulation
  • empathy for the distress a caregiver’s unregulated emotions cause in the child

About the Facilitator:

Liz Blight is a registered Psychologist with a passion in early interventions and preventative approaches that improve the outcomes of children.

Liz assisted with the development of an early intervention programme aimed at raising career aspirations and delivered it to a few thousand of the Wide Bay region’s primary school children.
More recently Liz has worked therapeutically in family support programmes in not-for-profit organisations and under Queensland Health’s Mental Health team to provide therapeutic interventions for children in out-of-home placements and to work systemically with child safety, education providers, foster support agencies, caregivers, and other relevant stakeholders.

Suitable for: Child care workers, early education teachers, teachers, learning support staff, child safety officers, carers, community support workers, grandparents and extended family, coaches, frontline workers who work with children (e.g. police and ambulance officers), professionals working in family law court, health and allied health workers who work with children, NDIS workers who work with children, university-level students with an interest in working with children.

​Time: 5:30pm - 7:00pm, with a prompt start

Information night for parents of kids with OCD

Description: Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is a condition that 2 – 3 percent of the Australian population may experience at some point in their lifetime. Parents are best placed to support children experiencing this condition.  This is an informal evening for parents to come together with a chance to ask a psychologist their questions. There will be a 20 minute presentation from a local psychologist followed by Q&A from attendees. There will be the opportunity to exchange contact details if you would like to keep in touch with each other.

Suitable for: Parents of children with obsessive compulsive disorder

INTRODUCTION TO THE CONTEMPORARY EVIDENCE-BASED ASSESSMENT AND INTERVENTION OF SEXUAL OFFENDING (OR INAPPROPRIATE SEXUAL BEHAVIOURS) BY ADULTS, YOUTH AND CHILDREN (7+) WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY AND/OR DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDERS

Description: 
The workshop will cover:
  • Evidence base of what does not work and why we have recently ceased previous assessments and interventions used widely in the community and corrections.
  • The contemporary evidence-based models with better outcomes being used internationally and recently introduced in Australia.
  • The relationship between the contemporary models, Behaviour Support and NDIS.

Participants of this training will have an updated knowledge and understanding of contemporary evidence-based models of intervention for unappropriated sexual behaviours and sexual offending.

Presenter: Heidi Wood- Psychologist, PhD  Student Forensic & Clinical Psychology  (on this topic in the forensic prison population), Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner (Forensic, sexual behaviours, dual diagnosis),  STAP Psychologist Supervisor , Behaviour Support Supervisor.
